AB 392 Passed by Gov. Newsom2019-08-22T13:31:10-07:00

AB 392 & SB 230

AB 392 Passes Senate Floor AB 392, introduced by Assemblymember Weber (D-San Diego) which would redefine the circumstances under which a homicide by a peace officer is deemed justifiable, passed through the Senate floor on July 10th and is now headed to California Governor Gavin Newsom for his pending approval. PORAC, as part of a California law enforcement coalition, worked tirelessly to ensure that the original language of AB 392 did not make it out of the legislature, which would have jeopardized officer safety and dramatically reduced our ability to protect our communities. With amendments made to the bill earlier this spring, PORAC removed its opposition to AB 392 and went neutral, as did the entire LE Coalition.   UPDATE on SB 230 PORAC sponsored SB 230, introduced by Senator Caballero (D-Salinas), is waiting to be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee and will not be taken up until late August. We anticipate SB 230 will make it to the Assembly floor sometime in early September for a vote, ultimately to be signed by Governor Newsom. PORAC will continue to advocate for California law enforcement at the state capitol and ensure their safety alongside the citizens of California. PORAC has worked diligently with the Governor, Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkin’s office, and other legislative leaders to convey the needs of our members and reach solutions everyone can agree on.   To read the full Bills click here to go to the PORAC website:  View as Webpage
